Learning to drive
Learning to drive is one of the most complex skills you will acquire in your life time. Therefore it is important that you invest time and effort in acquiring the skills to become a safe driver.
On road to becoming a competent driver you will need to understand and master many sub skills which are essential requirements for a modern day driver. At the initial stage of your training you will need to develop your elementary skills such as the vehicle control and manoeuvring skills, also you will need to develop a thorough understanding of the road procedures as well as rules on drink driving, environment pollution and skills associated with human interaction and fallibility.
In order to attain these skills you will need assistance from a competent instructor who has the proven ability to teach you every aspect of safe driving.
We at Monk School of Motoring run modular courses which are individually designed to meet these needs, following is an overview of what each training module will cover.
The module one will cover:
- Eyesight checks
- Vehicle entry, controls set up and exit procedures
- Understanding and systematic use of controls
- Safely move away from a parked position on the left-hand side of the road
- Safely park by the kerbside on the left
- Safely move away on a gradient under full control
- Stop in a pre designated position on all types of gradients
- Safely move away from behind obstructions from the left and right-hand kerbside
- Conduct elementary left and right hand turns
- Approach and emerge from simple junctions
Module two will cover:
- Fundamental understanding and systematic application of road procedures
- Application of hazard routine on approach to junctions
- Application of hazard routine on approach to routine hazards
- Application of Highway code on the road
- Elementary understanding and application of the rules on different types of Junctions
- Adequate clearances and spatial management
Module three will cover:
- Basic principles of vehicle handling whilst going backwards
- Reverse parking
- Turn in the Road
- Reverse around the corner to the left
- Reverse around the corner to the right
- Parking in the bays to the left and the right.
Module four will cover:
- Dealing with areas of light traffic
- Variations of basic road procedures
- Procedures for meeting on coming vehicles
- Principals and procedure for overtaking
- Making judgment of other vehicles speeds and safely crossing their path
- Vehicle sympathy and road courtesy
- Anticipation of actions of other road users
Module five will cover:
- Areas of heavy traffic
- Dealing with speed
- Dealing with duel carriageways
- Dealing with multi lane Roundabouts and complex intersections
- Overtaking at speeds
Module six will cover:
- Adverse weather conditions
- Driving during the night
- Driving on rural roads
- Dealing with aggressive drivers
- Dealing with negligent drivers
- What to do if you have a tyre blow out
- What to do in case of an injury accident
- What to do in case of a non injury accident
Module seven will cover:
- Test preparations
- Practice of test routes and test procedures.
Each module will develop your understanding and skills from your current knowledge base and take you up to the standard required to pass the test confidently. Everyone does not require all six modules in order to pass the driving test, therefore at the commencement of your training your instructor will evaluate your current skills and provide you with full guidance on required improvements.
